44th NAACP Image Awards

Eleven years ago when I joined the United States Navy as a photographer I never thought I would be working a Hollywood award show. But once again the Navy has offered me a great assignment and an amazing opportunity.

Friday evening was the 44th Annual NAACP Image Awards.  So why was I there; Vice Admiral Michelle Howard, deputy commander of United States Fleet Forces received the Chairman’s Award.
The award is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service. Past honorees include U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin, Tyler Perry, Former Vice President Al Gore and Dr. Wangari Muta Maathai, Aretha Franklin, Bono, then-Senator Barack Obama, The Dave Matthews Band, Danny Glover, and Aaron McGruder.

Bravo Zulu to both the Admiral and you. You have risen to the top of your chosen fields.

The safest place for a ship is in the harbor, but ships were made to sail. Freedom is always worth the price.
